The reSeat comes from designer AW, who keeps and reuses everything she can around the house. Overtime, she had collected bags and bags of packing peanuts and she stored them in large black trash bags. One day she accidentally seat on one and thought it felt surprisingly comfortable. Then she thought, "These packing peanuts can really make comfortable little stools!" However, trash bags full of packing peanuts aren't really visually appealing. So from there she decided to design beautiful covers for “trash bags full of packing peanuts.”

The idea of reSeat is to motivate and encourage people to reuse the packing fillers that we get from packages. People now-a-days do a lot of shopping online and therefore, have collected a lot of package fillers such as foam and packing peanuts. We thought instead of those being landfills, it would be much more fun to reuse and turn them into a fun piece of furniture!

As you sit on reSeat, over time the packing peanuts will be squashed down and making room for more of those unwanted packing fillers.

Bombe’s Compelling Constellation of Fiery Light
Red is my favorite color, so I’m quite partial to Yellow Goat’s Bombe. I’m also a devotee of synchrony, so I rather admire the double globe effect of the piece’s bulb and shade. In fact, I believe the best things come in threes, and though Bombe’s ostensible two-piece assembly might seem to disqualify it from that appraisal, the glass globe actually houses an energy-efficient CFL, which gives Bombe de-facto membership in this club of handsome threesomes. These qualities certainly recommend this imaginative miniature explosion of light, but the show-stopper is Bombe’s bright red acrylic shade. Resembling a paper sculpture created by the likes of a cheery incarnation of Edward Scissorhands, the shade’s intricate undulations are owed to the high durability and uniform consistency of acrylic, which material captures the effect of this Bombe’s perpetual detonation. Says Yellow Goat, “I wonder if this is what it looks like inside an exploding firework in the split second before it bursts into the night sky? Could be.”

The Prop has been designed to a strict brief of efficiency both in use of material as well as energy, whilst still retaining a high aesthetic appeal. Completely manufactured in the UK for this first edition, the Prop is perfectly timed as consumers balance cost, both financially and environmentally with the desire for beauty.

The Prop is a black acrylic table lamp consisting of three laser-cut moulded pieces that radiate from a central triangular form. The manufacturing process used is the reverse to traditional acrylic moulding in that the acrylic is laser cut to size first and then moulded to ensure an absolute minimum of wastage from a single sheet, 3% in fact. The low energy light source reflects off the gloss finish of the lamp, playing with perception and the conventions of a typical lampshade.

Most remarkable is the fact that the light contains three 10-watt bulbs in an era when compact fluorescent (CFL) lights are de rigueur. The low-watt bulbs were chosen deliberately because they are a more sustainable choice for the environment. The amount of energy required to manufacture CFL bulbs and to recycle them is actually greater than the energy they save. CFLs also present a serious problem in terms of disposing of millions of mercury-containing lamps, as well as posing health risks to workers in the factories that produce them. And who can deny that the warm light of the standard bulb is far more pleasant than the new LED or CFL? In 000, the bulbs themselves, along with a beloved pile of books or magazines, become the ornament. Believe it or not, we've actually had the similar idea of putting our LED silicone bubbles inside a stocking and hang them from the ceiling. However, because of some technical difficulties that it didn't get made.

Well, these beautiful Light Sock are a little different. They are made out of Swarovski crystals!

"You probably wouldn't toss socks and crystals together in the same thought, but here's the result. The "Light Sock" installation features meshed bags stuffed collectively with thousands of Swarovski crystals, with tiny lights buried inside the jumble. The other day we saw this beautiful light on Yanko Design and just have to share with you. This simple, clean line and elegant light is inspired by black stork.

It is just beautiful. I especially like when its folded and the glow of light softly resting in between its strong arms.

LED Steps: Motion-Sensing Staircase Illuminates Itself

The Motion-Sensing Staircase is made by a German designer Edo Kriegsmann who has a passion for interactive furniture and fixtures. Edo Kriegsmann installed LED lights on a otherwise normal stair case to make it interactive. Each fade-in, fade-out, cross-tread LED light is a miniature marvel to behold in action.

"The sensor at the bottom, once tripped, starts the sequence of lights leading up to the top of the steps – while not demonstrated, one has to hope there is a corresponding sensor at the top that performs the same function in reverse" http://dornob.com

These are some beautiful and delicate lamps. They are so beautiful and delicate that I'm almost afraid to use them.

Usually with most lamp and light designs, they hide the bulb because it is the least pretty part of the lamp. However, brownehsieh has done a beautiful job at bring attention to the bulb itself and making it the center piece of the lamp!

These floor lamps that are like IV poles with bottles intrigued me. I'm not quite sure if it delights me or scares me. But it does reminds me of those painful times I spent in the hospital that one time... Anyways, here are some words from the designer:

Literally "light infusion", this design transforms the intravenous apparatus of yesteryear into a contemporary lighting piece. Currently used in fashion boutiques, bars, by interior designers and most frequently purchased by doctors for their own home(!), the lamps style, theme and presence instantly changes any environment into which it is placed. The lamp has a powder-coated steel frame, four transparent power cables and four sand-blasted glass bottles with dimmable clear halogen bi-pin bulbs.

So... what do we think?

Dumbbell-lamp?

We came across this interesting little lighting concept recently on Design Spotter. It is "the system of lamps, inspired by dumbbell, realised in polypropylene or soft touch plastic." This Dumbbell lamp is designed by Samal design France.

So what do we think about these dumbbell lamps? Since it's still a lighting concept and there are not much information about how these things work, yet. However, it does seem like a good idea if we can take each dumbbell as a flash light (assuming these are battery operated) and then hook up a bunch together to really light up a space.

Seems like it would be a fantastic idea if as we hook these dumbbell lamps on the chains, they also start charging the batteries. Could this really be a great lighting product? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

There isn't much explanation about this little guy, trying to unplug itself from the wall, but I think its humor we can all easily get. We really need more products like this one to pull ourselves out of the boring static everyday lives.

Wouldn't you just smile when you see this hard working little guy?

This guy is also pretty clever trying to hold on to its life while hanging from the ceiling.

light PEG designed by Natalia Romanova for a lighting design competition is really pretty cool!

The concept of the light PEG is to combine the functions of pegs with light. It kinda like little to-go lights! Very cute!

Each PEG has 6 LEDs and 2 rechargeable batteries (not sure of the size). The batteries needs to be charged for 30-40mins for 4-5 hours of lite time. That's pretty good.

We can see a lot of possibilities of where to use the light PEG, what about you?

Definitely a must at parties!!!
Would be very useful for ordering drinks at a bar as well.
It's a cleaver concept!

These Glow-in-the-Dark outdoor furniture is designed by Gruppo Avanzini who uses the stripes of various kinds of wood with resin infill between each layer. This is a design style somewhere between high-end craft and luxury contemporary furniture design.

I can see this fits perfect in a lunge bar or an outdoor patio space for those hip and trendy. It runs on batteries for now, but hopefully there will be a charging feature soon!

Lull is a lamp that's shaped like a flower and it opens and closes as it turns on/off.

Lull is an award-winning product made for GiForm 2007, an industrial design competition in Norway.

In the evening time, Lull gives off an warm glow and turns off while slowly closing. In the morning, it opens it's flower paddles and slowly increase the light intensity while giving people a more delightful awakening experience.

I wonder if it's on a timer? Or is it sensitive to the day light? On the other hand, when there's sunlight outside, we usually don't need another light... or do we?

They are so simple! The design shows off the simplicity and beauty in 5mm led that we most likely took for granted.

These LED lighting fixtures are about twenty times a led bulb and there are 12 leds in the acrylic glass lens. As a bonus, it also creates interesting light patterns on the walls or ceiling.

Very interesting idea but not yet manufactured.

Pear Tree Light Glows

This cool lite pear hanging on a "tree" is designed by Nick Foley, an industrial design student in New York.

He states, “Each pear contains ten ultra bright white LEDs, an autonomous charging circuit, and rare-earth magnets that allow it to be ‘picked’ from the tree and remain fully illuminated for over an hour.”

Ten ultra bright white LEDs! Now, that's really bright!!
I suppose each LED pear could function almost as a flash light when needed. And when you are not using it, just hang it back on the "tree" and it will be charged. What a fun and maybe useful idea!

What is this beautiful thing? It is a modular LED lighting fixture designed by Daniel Becker, who is an industrial designer from Frankfurt Germany. This modular lighting system is designed to be arranged in a 3 dimensional space, which is very unusual! This does not have to fit flat on the wall. It can turn a corner, come off of the wall and rotate freely in 360 degrees. What an amazing idea!

This LED lighting fixture is almost scuplture like, is composed from a few simple parts. Each part has a joinet that can be rotated in 360 degrees in any direction. The parts can be easliy attached with screw-type joinets even if you don't have any technical expertise, you can also simply make your own lighting art!

Here we would like to answer some concerns:

To Valitsa: there is a way to change the LED, however, it’s not so easy as changing the light bulb. It involves soldiering… probably best to send it back to the manufacturer and have them fix it. The good news is, the manufacturer ensured us that if used properly, the LEDs should last for about 100,000 hours.
To Steven: You are thinking what we are thinking!! Exchangeable silicone bubbles of different sizes and shapes are the next step for d°light bubbles!!!

Abyss is a a new lamp design by Berlin-based product designers Osko et Deichmann. Abyss is a table lamp composed by a modular structure of injection moulded opal polycarbonate illuminated by a high voltage LED strip. This vertebrate structure allows infinite combinations of self-standing articulated forms that seem to freely float in space. The subliminal perception of this light body evokes atmospheres of deep ocean ambience in which luminous organisms sinuously and beamingly float into the darkness. Thanks to a hook, Abyss can also be hung to the wall and shaped according to the new position. The light comes in a table version and a suspension version.

You may wonder: What is a light bulb?? The answer is simple: it is a light bulb that has gone way out of line. Infected by the dreaded Design Virus, these Blubs have taken on all kinds of forms and sizes you wouldn't expect from such well behaving and reliable little products. Nevertheless, they seem to be enjoying their new free existences.

Looking at these flowing and almost drippy beautiful free form shapes of light bulbs really makes me think. What if there are these sort of materials out there that can "drip" for form to the shape of its srounndings and we use those materials to create free from lighting fixtures? Wouldn't it just create so much wonders and imaginations in our day to day lifes?

I very much agree with the designer as he stated:

Light design is about creating spatial experiences and moods. In the fashion world it is very common to create atmospheres that express emotions about a new collection, by products and interior. In that context it's not about what the product do, or what physical use it has, its about what feeling it gives you and what it says about you. The Black Flower collection consists of one armature in the size small, medium and large. The sizes are designed to fit into environments with different spatial conditions. Part of the armature's construction is flexible which makes it able to change and adapt to the customer's needs.The user is able to interact and create the final appearance of the light fitting for the public space.

I do believe that products should become more than its physical usages; it should become more of a feeling that it gives you and how you can make it more you!

It is made of lacquered aluminum and available in several colors and adjustable positions. ADJUSTABLE POSITIONS! Just think of the possibilities of fun with this product. Love Design the book presents a selection of unusual products, objects, graphics and textiles specifically designed to enhance (or distort) our pleasurable sense of togetherness in every possible and impossible way. Love Design the exhibition presents the works of 20 outstanding designers taken from the book. The selection includes new products, textiles, jewelry, lights, tableware and furniture that question the very meaning of the word 'love', the beginning and the ending of what binds us together and tears us apart. "

To celebrate the release of the book Love Design (Daab publishing ) in which d°light huggable is featured, we are cordially invited to the Love Design Cocktail Party during the design week in Milan. However, sadly to say, we will not be able to attend. So we'll like to share this invite with our friends in Milan or somewhere closer than where we are. New in The Funky Company

The Funky Company is web based store but hopes to open a retail outlet as soon as they can. Their intention is to open a store that is also a coffee shop where people can meet, socialise and see a range of interesting products all at the same time. This coffee shop/store is hope to open in Sydney, London, Birmingham and Paris.

But, before their cool "The Funky Company Cafe" opens, we have their web version first. It all started when they noticed that there are too many cool and funky gadgets and gizmo's all over the world. But it was frustrating to find where to actually buy these cool products. Therefore, a mystery man, Mr. X created The Funky Company to bring together the coolest, most trendy, sophisticated, quality and greatest products he can find. They have a catalogue that grows almost everyday. We are happy that our d°light huggable made it into their catalogue! Now all of you in Australia can get our d°light huggable easier! :)

Design und Emotion Exhibit in Badisches Landesmuseum

We were part of the Design und Emotion Exhibit in Badisches Landesmuseum in Germany last year from August to November. The exhibition was very successful! Heidrun Jecht did a fantastic job organizing the whole thing. Here's a video of her insides on the exhibition.

2008 Winter limited edition d°light Huggable

The debut of this fuzzy and soft d°light Huggable was in ICFF of May 2008. This adults were crazy over it and the kids cannot keep their hands off it.

The soft, fuzzy, swirly fabric is very inviting to the touch. The silicone bubbles inside with the shape of the cover creates almost limb like sensation that help making d°light Huggable more life-like.

We have made a limited amount of this snow-rose d°light and will be available for purchase this December. There will be an announcement shortly regarding availability and price.
